When you log a run on your RunClever account, you are given two ratings. These ratings allow you to compare any run you have ever done, and anyone else has ever done, no matter what the distance, temperature, underfoot conditions or elevation.

The Top Speed Rating is calculated using the RunClever algorithms to determine a comparative rating for how quickly you ran a certain distance, considering nothing else but the pace you ran and the distance you ran it for. You will get a rating for every run, allowing you, for example, to see whether the 5km run you did today was comparatively better to the 12km run you did 6 months ago.

The Personal Run Rating is calculated using the RunClever algorithms to determine a comparative rating for how quickly you ran a certain distance, however this time considering the circumstances in which you ran it and how those factors impacted your run. For example, the temperature when you ran, the surface you ran on and the total elevation of your run. You will get a rating for every run, allowing you, for example, to see whether the 5km run you did today on the mud and over hills when it was 26 degrees outside, was better or worse than the 10km run you did when it was two degrees on flat concrete paths.

Based on your recent history of Personal Run Ratings, you will also be assigned an Official RunClever Rating, which is an indicator of your current level of ability. Please note that you will only be able to attain ratings for runs between 1.5 miles and 30 miles, as extreme low or high distances because other factors than actual cardiorespiratory ability come into play at a more significant level.

Other ratings

In addition to ratings for any runs you may do of your own accord, we have identified 3 particular pieces of data that we believe provide the most accurate picture of cardiorespiratory ability. These are:

Your Resting Heart Rate is the number of times your heart beats per minute when you’re calm and not active.

Your 6 Minute Run Rating is a rating based on how far, in metres, an individual is able to run in 6 minutes, when exerting maximum effort. This uses a combination of different energy systems.

Your 12 Minute Run Rating is a rating based on how far, in metres, an individual is able to run in 12 minutes, when exerting maximum effort. This uses a combination of different energy systems, which are in different proportions to those you would use for the 6-minute run.
